What – How To

The Goal of P.R.A.Y. the Bible is to ultimately create whole hearted followers of Jesus Christ.

Whole hearted followers of Christ are people who seek to love the Lord will all their heart, soul, strength, and mind and obey everything He commands (Luke 10:27; Matt 28:20).

They don’t just skim over the Bible… They “R.E.A.D. and P.R.A.Y. The Bible”

Another way of saying this is that we wish to become people who live as the Hands and Voice of Jesus Christ wherever we go… a tall order to be sure!

Here’s the process:

RRead the scripture and/or listen to it being read, Record key words and phrases by marking them or writing them down or Retelling what went on. Note how the ideas Relate to each other in the passage you’re studying and other passages of  scripture that come to mind.

EExamine the key ideas. Ask, then answer, the “W” questions – “Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How”. Work to be able to Explain it  to someone else in simple language.

A “How does this Apply to life today?” There may be sins to avoid, promises to claim, petitions and praises to pray, examples to follow, commands to obey, or knowledge to put to use in your life… (“SPECK”)…

  • Ask yourself “What does this teach me about God? Jesus? People?…
  • Ask yourself “what does it tell me to stop doing?
  • What does it tell me to do instead?”…
  • How do you see yourself putting this into practice in the next few days with God’s help? …
  • Who do you see yourself sharing God’s Word with this week with God’s help?

D – Do the Word by responding to it with Prayer and Action!

Putting God’s Word into Prayerful Action means that in response to God’s Word we …

P – Praise God and Thank God based on what we’ve learned

R – Reflect on what God requires, Repent where necessary, and Return to Jesus Christ

A – Ask, Seek, and Knock in prayer for personal needs and Kingdom goals, especially those related to our Bible study…

Y – Say  “Yes, I will”  plan how to and actually put God’s Word to practice right away and plan how to and actually share His Word with others!

In addition to other Bible reading, have at least one time per week when you purposely go through this process – alone or with other Christians to R.E.A.D. & P.R.A.Y. God’s Word

What’s your plan?
